- Is IELTS UKVI different from IELTS?
IELTS UKVI is for migration to the UK. The structure of the exam is the same as the regualar IELTS.
- What is the difference between IELTS General Training and IELTS Academic?
Purpose
IELTS Academic
- For those applying to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels in English-speaking countries.
- Suitable for professionals like doctors or nurses seeking registration in an English-speaking country.
IELTS General Training
- For those applying for work, training programs, or migration to countries like Australia, Canada, the UK, or New Zealand.
- Focuses on everyday language skills required in social and workplace contexts.
Structure
Both versions have four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, but Reading and Writing differ between the two.
Listening
- Same for both versions
- Four recorded sections (conversations and monologues) with increasing difficulty.
Reading
Academic
- Three long passages, often taken from books, journals, or magazines.
- Topics are academic or research-oriented, sometimes requiring understanding of complex arguments.
- Includes a variety of question types (e.g., multiple-choice, matching headings).
General Training
- Texts are shorter and simpler, focusing on practical content like advertisements, workplace documents, and guides.
- The first section deals with social survival skills; the second focuses on workplace contexts, and the third is a longer, general-interest text.
Writing
Academic
- Task 1: Summarize or describe visual information like graphs, charts, tables, or diagrams.
- Task 2: Write an essay in response to an argument, problem, or opinion.
General Training
- Task 1: Write a letter (formal, semi-formal, or informal) for a specific situation (e.g., requesting information, making a complaint).
- Task 2: Write an essay similar to the Academic version but less formal in style and topics.
Speaking
- Same for both versions.
- A face-to-face interview with an examiner.
