Let me guess! You’re preparing for the IELTS and hitting a wall with True/False/Not Given IELTS Reading. Yep, I’ve been there too. 😅
In fact, when I took my first IELTS Academic test over 12 years ago, my goal was a Band 7, with no skill below 6.5. Sounds reasonable, right?
But guess what… my Reading score was only 5! 😱
Why? Simple. I didn’t practice. At all. I completely deserved that score.
Of course, I panicked. I felt like a total failure. But eventually, I made a decision—to restart my IELTS journey. But, just like you, I struggled with True/False/Not Given.
And I found my way! And today, I help clients like YOU do it right from the start.
Let’s defeat True/False/Not Given IELTS Reading together.
What You’re Asked to Do
You’ll see a reading passage and a list of statements. For each one, you need to decide if it is:
✅ True – The statement completely matches the information in the text
❌ False – The statement contradicts the text
❓ Not Given – The information is not mentioned or only partially given
Sounds easy, right? But here’s the catch…
Why It’s So Confusing
Some statements seem partially true and partially false. Maybe half of it matches the passage, but the other half doesn’t. Or one part is correct and the other part is completely missing from the text.
You start doubting yourself:
“It feels true, but something’s off…”
“Should I choose ‘Not Given’ instead?”
That’s exactly where people get stuck 😩
So let me give you the golden rules!
✅ True Statement
A statement is True only if every single part of it is clearly supported by the text.
❌ False Statement
If even one detail contradicts the text, the answer is False.
❓Not Given Statement
The entire statement isn’t mentioned in the text at all.
Some details are supported by the passage, but at least one key detail is not mentioned.
